Venture-backed SE Asian startups active on M&As, clock at least 15 deals this year

Southeast Asia’s venture capital and private equity-backed companies have had a busy start to the year with at least 15 acquisitions, a sign that the region’s tech sector is maturing.

Some notable deals include Grab’s acquisition of the Malaysian supermarket chain Jaya Grocer. Grab, which received a $4.5-billion cash injection after going public last year, bought Jaya Grocer to scale its on-demand grocery service in Malaysia. Grab’s supermarket acquisition comes after Indonesia’s e-commerce platform Blibli bought the Indonesian grocery chain Ranch Market grocery chain in September last year.
