Orbit invests in FlokQ & Jagofon

Orbit Startups, a programme for emerging and frontier markets from US venture capital firm SOSV, has invested in Indonesian proptech startup Flokq and second-hand marketplace Jagofon as part of its latest cohort.

The startups have each received initial funding of about $150,000 along with an intensive programme that supports their growth and fundraising beyond demo day.

The other startups in the latest cohort are Pakistani agritech firm EasyFresh, Nigeria-based fintech firm InfiniteUp, Bangladesh edutech platform Ostad, and Colombian neobank Ubanku.

Orbit helps startups from around the globe across emerging and frontier markets in Southeast and South Asia, the Middle-East, Africa, and the Americas. Orbit invests through its fund SOSV, a US-based venture capital firm with $1.5 billion in assets under management.

Weploy bags $5m from Skymind

Australia-based staffing platform Weploy has officially launched in Vietnam and raised $5 million from London-based investment management firm Skymind Global Ventures in its first funding round, as per a release.

Weploy is planning to expand its operational scale in Vietnam to help eliminate the supply-demand gap in seasonal staffing and to provide easy job opportunities for Vietnamese seasonal workers on their smartphones in just a few steps.

Weploy Vietnam will also work with Skymind Global Ventures to research, develop, and create business opportunities across Asia and Europe.

“The advantages of Weploy for businesses searching for seasonal workers are quality, speed, and compliance with procedures and legal operations. This digital platform promises to become an extended arm for human resources for many businesses in various fields by connecting the available seasonal workers with suitable job opportunities.” said Steve Trang, co-founder and CEO of Weploy Vietnam.

Weploy is an on-demand staffing and workforce management platform which also conducts candidate interviews and organises training sessions on attitudes, job behaviour, career orientation, and basic-to-advanced specialised training for the positions they are applying for.
