UPS and Fast Radius are partnering to establish a 3D printing factory as a UPS facility in Singapore by the end of 2016, while Aztech Group is intending to delist from the SGX and become a private firm.
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">UPS-Fast Radius partnership to open 3D printing factory in Singapore</h3>
<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/ups/" target="_blank">UPS</a> and partner <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.fastradius.com/" target="_blank">Fast Radius</a> are opening a 3D printing factory in a UPS facility in Singapore by the end of 2016, in a move that will expand UPS’s on-demand 3D printing network in Asia and enable customers to increase their supply chain efficiency with additive manufacturing.
The integrated logistics services provider says that in addition to its main package delivery service, UPS also gets a portion of its revenue from storing and shipping parts for manufacturers.
3D printing could disrupt this revenue channel, leading to UPS making the decision to invest in 3D printing facilities. This will see UPS print out plastic parts such as nozzles, brackets or prototype soap dispensers, as well as  multifaceted moving parts, while using its existing logistics capabilities to deliver them.
In addition, it will also create a Centre of Excellence to help customers develop supply chain solutions and promote wider applicability of 3D printing.
For instance, businesses can also use Fast Radius’ On Demand Production Platform to produce industrial parts. These are to be delivered via UPS’s global and intra-Asia transportation network.
“3D printing will have a significant impact on industrial manufacturing and 21st Century supply chains,” says Ross McCullough, president of UPS Asia Pacific region. “At UPS, we are embracing disruptive technologies and integrating them into our global logistics network. We believe that much like e-commerce digitised and transformed retail, 3D printing will have a similar impact on manufacturing.”
“UPS is the first integrated logistics provider to establish an on-demand 3D printing manufacturing and logistics network in Asia,” McCullough adds. “This network will help Asia strengthen its position as a manufacturing hub.”
3D printing has the potential to disrupt traditional mass-production manufacturing, and by extension the traditional logistics industry that underlies the delivery of goods worldwide.
The investment by UPS is among moves the corporate is taking to mitigate disruption to its revenue via investments in disruptive industries; October 2015 saw it invest in drone maker <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://cyphyworks.com/" target="_blank">CyPhy Works</a> and February 2016 saw it acquire a stake in same-day delivery company <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.deliv.co/" target="_blank">Deliv</a>.
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">Aztech to delist from SGX and go private</h3>
Electronics products conglomerate <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.aztech.com" target="_blank">Aztech Group</a> chairman and CEO Mun Hong Yew is offering 42 cents per share to privatise the multi-industry company, valuing it at more than S$20 million, joining a growing list of companies exiting the <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/sgx" target="_blank">Singapore Exchange (SGX)</a>.
If Mun is successful, Aztech will join the growing list of companies that have been taken private from the Singapore Exchange, amid subdued trading interest. This is to be done via AVS Investments, a specially created privatisation vehicle.
To date, Mun controls approximately 25 per cent of Aztech, with the offer price of 42 cents representing a 29.2 per cent premium over the last transacted price of 32.5 cents on 16 September 2016.
However, the offer price for the privatisation bid is 13.2 per cent below the volume weighted average price of the preceding 12-month period of 48.4 cents. According to official statements, there is no intention to revise the offer price.
Privatisation will reduce regulatory and compliance costs for the firm while granting its management greater flexibility in managing and developing existing businesses and building its top line. According to Aztech, it has not plans to issue placements or bonds, or otherwise raise capital from public capital markets.
Q2 2016 saw  Aztech report incurred losses of S$10.5 million from a profit of S$1 million in Q2 2015, due to its new marine business taking an impairment charge of S$6.8 million. It also reported that the company&#8217;s revenue in the same period has declined by 20.5 percent to S$66.8 million.
