Singapore-based <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/b-capital" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">B Capital</a> has led a $8-million Series B round in <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://bright.md/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Bright.md</a>, a virtual medical assistant for primary care co-founded by CEO Ray Costantini and Mark Swinth.
Existing investor Seven Peaks Ventures also participated in the round bringing its aggregate equity funding raised to $11.5 million.
Bright.md partners with hospital systems to offer patients a virtual primary care option by capturing patient data and medical history from the EMR to predict the diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan. It will escalate the patient to a face-to-face visit if necessary and aids in reducing wait times and the duration of primary care visits.
In a <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://medium.com/b-capital-group/investing-in-the-future-and-long-term-sustainability-of-primary-care-41e928a8a683" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">blog post</a> by B Capital, a representative of the firm comments: &#8220;Bright.md hits on a number of themes we’re excited about at B Capital: AI, telemedicine, and redesigning primary care. As we navigate our way through this prolonged period of uncertainty in the US regulatory landscape, we have zeroed in on these as sectors that can simultaneously drive down cost and improve outcomes.&#8221;
The funding will support continued market development for SmartExam Bright.md&#8217;s cloud-based artificial intelligence (AI) software, including new implementations of healthcare delivery systems, increased sales and marketing efforts, expanded client engagements and additional hiring.
SmartExam is built on an AI platform that uses intelligent learning algorithms. The system gets smarter over time, as it learns more about a specific patient&#8217;s health needs and conditions, and gains insights to improve the process with every patient and provider interaction.
Another healthcare asset in the B Capital portfolio is the CXA Group, an employee benefits and flexible wellness marketplace which <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/edbi-and-b-capital-co-lead-25m-cxa-group-series-b-64401/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">secured a $25 million Series B round co-led by the EDBI and B Capital in February 2017</a>.
