In the last turn of 2014, Singapore firms continue deal making with their Chinese counterparts. Beijing&#8217;s rapidly growing realty sector has attracted Singapore-based Ying Li, that plans to make its first China investment next year.
Similarly, for the <a href="http://www.shengsiong.com.sg/" target="_blank">Sheng Siong Group Ltd</a>, China presents the next growth opportunity. As opportunities in its domestic market shrinks. The Singapore based supermarket retailer has set up JV to open retail chain in China.
Meanwhile, another Singapore based company has divested from its China-based investment due to delayed HK exchange listing.   k1 Ventures, together with TPG Capital has sold stake in <a style="color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;" href="http://www.chinagrandauto.com/en/" target="_blank">China Grand Automotive Services</a>.
Ying Li penetrates Beijing property market with $90m investment
<a href="http://www.yingligj.com/" target="_blank">Ying Li International Real Estate Limited</a> will invest RMB559 million ($89.45 million) to develop a mixed-use real estate project in the central area of the Beijing Tongzhou district.
The company will co-invest with <a href="http://www.ebchinaintl.com/" target="_blank">China Everbright Limited (CEL)</a> and other investors, in this project that requires a total investment of RMB7.2 billion ($1.152 billion). Ying Li said in the statement that the investment will be funded by the proceeds from convertible bond issue and share placement to CEL.
Currently, the project is still in its initial stage and is expected to commence pre-sales in 2015. on completion, it will feature high-rise premium residential units, office buildings and retail malls with a gross floor area of approximately 750,000 square meters.
It will also be the first development project that combines the mass rapid transit, round island underground tunnel, and underground retail in one single location.
k1 Ventures divests from China automobile business
Singapore based <a style="color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;" href="http://www.k1ventures.com/" target="_blank">k1 Ventures Limited</a> stated that it would earn approximately $32 million in cash after <a href="http://https://tpg.com" target="_blank">TPG Capital</a>’s Newbridge Asia Advisors IV made a full sale of its stake (including the stake of k1 Ventures), in <a style="color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;" href="http://www.chinagrandauto.com/en/" target="_blank">China Grand Automotive Services</a>.
The stake in China&#8217;s largest auto-dealer was sold to an investor group led by China’s <a href="http://www.htisec.com/en/" target="_blank">Haitong International Securities Group Limited</a>.
TPG and k1 had co-invested in China Grand Auto since 2007. Their collective stake reprresented one third of the shareholding in the China Grand Auto. However, TPG decided to divest its co-investment in the company after the plans for its Hong Kong listing was postponed (due to the stock market’s tepid climate and rally against Chinese government.)
Since this divestment has been completed, k1 has ceased to have any interest in China Grand Auto. This spin-off will increase its earnings per share and net tangible assets per share by 1 cent for its financial year ending June 30, 2015.
Sheng Siong signs JV to run supermarkets in China

Singapore-based supermarket retailer  Sheng Siong Group Ltd has entered into a joint venture with <a href="http://luchengroupsg.com" target="_blank">Kunming Luchen</a> to jointly set up and operate supermarkets in China.
The Singapore retailer will hold 60 per cent in the JV and Kunming Luchen have 30 per cent, and the remaining 10 per cent will be held by Sheng Siong’s executive director Tan Ling San.
The three partners will jointly put in $10 million as per their equity holdings, with Sheng Siong contributing $6 million, Kunming Luchen at $3 million and Tan Ling San will commit $1 million to the venture.
Luchen, set up in 1954, manufactures and distributes food products such as sauces and condiments.
