German automotive manufacturing firm <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.continental-corporation.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Continental AG </a> has acquired Singapore-based mobility intelligence provider Quantum Inventions.
Quantum Inventions will add to Continental’s growing intelligent transportation systems portfolio. While financial terms of the transaction are undisclosed, according to a Reuters <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.reuters.com/article/us-infineon-technol-results-idUSKBN1AH4EY" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">brief</a>, Aapico Hitech Pcl, an investor in the firm, secured a consideration of S$9.25 million for the sale of its stake in the company.
Ralf Lenninger, head of the Continental business unit Intelligent Transportation Systems said, “Continental plans to double its current sales with mobility services by 2020.&#8221;
&#8220;This alliance brings Business Unit Intelligent Transportation Systems a step closer to its goal of creating products, systems and solutions which, by 2025 will ensure 20 million better cars, better mobile lives for 25 million consumers and 20 better cities.&#8221;
Incepted in 2005, Quantum Inventions is a spin-off company from the Centre for High-Performance Embedded Systems (CHiPES) in Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
Quantum Inventions owns intellectual property (IP) and techniques that include hardware portable efficient dynamic routing, map-matching and map database partitioning.
This enables it to power navigation systems that are highly responsive to real-time information such as traffic data, road incident information, and dynamic road pricing.
With the acquisition, around 120 employees working across Quantum Inventions’ three offices in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia and staff from Quantum Inventions Development Centre (QIDC) in India will join the Continental umbrella.
