SGInnovate has roped in five new co-investors to join the Startup SG Equity scheme while ONE Championship has launched ONE Studios, that will produce movies and TV shows.
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">Five new co-investors for Startup SG Equity</h3>
SGInnovate, the Singapore government’s innovation platform, has welcomed five partners including Golden Gate Ventures (together with its dedicated blockchain fund LuneX Ventures), and GREE Ventures to join the panel of 17 other co-investors under the Startup SG Equity scheme.
The Startup SG Equity scheme aims to accelerate private investment into Singapore-based technology startups.
Elev8.VC, ST Engineering Ventures and Verge Capital Management also join as co-investors to invest with SGInnovate in early-stage deep tech startups in fields like artificial intelligence and medtech.
Steve Leonard, founding CEO, SGInnovate said, the participation of new co-investors will further strengthen the team’s ability to assess and invest in exciting deep tech startups at the earliest stage.
Meanwhile, Merkle Science, a provider of risk-monitoring solution for blockchain companies, has raised a seed investment backed by LuneX Ventures and SGInnovate. The investment marks the first deal to be completed with a newly appointed co-investor.
To date, SGInnovate and its partners have completed 22 co-investment deals, reaching a total of over S$52 million ($38 million) investment under this scheme.
The total value of investments made alongside these co-investors is estimated to reach up to S$80 million ($58.7 million) by 2022.
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">ONE Championship enters movie, TV industry</h3>
Singapore’s ONE Championship has announced the launch of ONE Studios in an effort to expand beyond the firm’s mixed martial arts events and eSports venture.
“We will make award-winning global blockbuster movies and TV shows for the world with global distribution via digital partners (such as Netflix, YouTube, Facebook, Amazon, etc) as well as our existing 140+ TV broadcast partners around the globe,” said Chatri Sityodtong, chairman and CEO of ONE Championship.
ONE Championship is currently working on its first movie project that will be announced in the near future.
Last year, the firm announced up to $50 million investment in ONE eSports, a joint venture with Japan’s advertising agency Dentsu Inc to hold eSports events alongside ONE Championship martial arts events.
