Fresh from acquiring Malaysia-based artificial intelligence startup Hyperlab, Singapore-based customer service solutions company Everise Holdings said it is always on the lookout for more partnerships and acquisitions.
&#8220;We have partnered with Microsoft which has resulted in AI labs being established in Kuala Lumpur, Manila and the US. Our recent acquisition of Hyperlab will allow us to incorporate AI conversational platforms in a variety of languages into our broader BPO offerings around the world, not just in Asia. So, we will be on the lookout for more acquisitions and partnerships to add to our suite of solutions, and are open to the types of engagements we enter into,&#8221; said Everise CEO Sudhir Agarwal.
In September, Everise <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/singapore-everise-malaysia-hyperlab-107358/">snapped up a majority stake</a> in Hyperlab to help support its research and development and expansion plans. Everise is owned by Sunrise BPO Services, PE firm Everstone Group and ACPI.
In an email interaction with DEALSTREETASIA, Agarwal notes that while the Asian BPO market is currently dominated by the Philippines, Malaysia&#8217;s BPO industry is closing up the competition gap and is expected to reach $1.4-billion in 2021, at a CAGR of 7.9 per cent.
He predicts that more and more global brands from the US, Europe and Asia will be using Malaysian BPO firms to handle their customer service activities. &#8220;Through acquisitions of firms such as Hyperlab, we aim to future-proof the BPO industry,&#8221; he said.
Hyperlab was co-founded by three serial entrepreneurs Vic Sithasanan, Janet Teo and Chris Greenough. The trio led ASX-listed marketing and media firm Next Digital (now known as APD) in Asia from 2012 to 2015, growing the agency&#8217;s footprint in Kuala Lumpur via acquisitions. The trio then launched Hyperlab and also founded a digital recruitment firm Potentio.
Post acquisition, the Hyperlab co-founders will continue to lead the growth, client servicing and marketing portions of the business. Sithasanan added that Hyperlab will leverage on the global reach of Everise to grow and further develop the startup&#8217;s conversational AI technology.
Currently, Hyperlab provides chatbots and other conversational platforms in a variety of languages including Singlish, Manglish, Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese. Its customers include U Mobile, Hong Leong Bank and Zurich Insurance.
&#8220;So, we will take these learnings to develop Spanish language solutions for the US market,&#8221; he said.
