Singapore-headquartered <a href="http://omni-united.com/" target="_blank">Omni United</a> has acquired US tyre wholesale distributor, <a href="http://interstatetire.com/" target="_blank">Interstate Tire Distributor (ITD)</a>, for an undisclosed sum.
The US firm produces tyres in partnership with manufacturers in the US, China, India and Indonesia.
The acquisition will enable Omni to more than double its existing retail reach in the US market, which accounts for 65 per cent of its revenue.
The nature of this transaction is a vertical, <a href="https://www.divestopedia.com/definition/940/bolt-on-acquisition" target="_blank">bolt-on acquisition</a> offering significant expansion to the capabilities of Omni United.
ITD notably <a href="http://www.businessgreen.com/bg/news/2379224/from-tyres-to-trainers-timberland-announces-pioneering-recycling-partnership" target="_blank">maintains a strategic partnership</a> with outdoor lifestyle brand Timberland which allows it to expand its reach along the tire value chain, while offering increased ecological sustainability.
&#8220;The acquisition of ITD is the next step in the evolution of Omni United as a tyre designer and marketer and it will reinforce our presence in our core market, the United States,&#8221; Omni United&#8217;s chief executive, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G._S._Sareen" target="_blank">GS Sareen</a> said, in a statement.
ITD&#8217;s three principals &#8211; John Farkas, Scott Simpson, and Matt Seavers &#8211; will continue to hold senior leadership positions.
“Omni United wants to grow ITD’s existing business into a much larger company, with larger warehouse facilities and additional product offerings,” said Farkas, president of ITD.
