Singapore-listed <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/yuuzoo" target="_blank">YuuZoo Corporation</a> has acquired a 5 per cent stake in Beijing-headquartered RS Media &amp; Entertainment Group (RSMEG).
RSMEG aims to become one of the premier facilitators for Chinese film and television co- production, leveraging on a combination of what was described in a a release as &#8220;&#8230;privileged access to talent, properties, financing and distribution.&#8221;
Currently, the firm is producing an updated version of the classic Jack London novel, White Fang, but with the addition of and adaptation including new Chinese story elements.
According to IHS Technology, China is opening 10 new cinema screens every day and estimates that the Chinese film market in 2014 was worth US$4.6 billion, an increase close to 35 per cent. Within 5 years the company expects the Chinese film market to be the largest in the world.
This transaction serves as a complementary acquisition, expanding the footprint of YuuZoo in China as well as positioning it to capitalise on the opportunities presented by the mainland Chinese market. In addition, it grants RSMEG indirect access to the capital markets and pool of investors represented by the Singapore bourse.
Commenting on the, <a href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/thomas-zilliacus" target="_blank">Thomas Zilliacus</a>, executive chairman and founder of YuuZoo, stated: “Having a presence on and a link to all 4 screens; the movie screen, the TV screen, the computer screen and the mobile screen, offers major advantages. With this investment, YuuZoo is strongly linked to all these screens in the world’s largest market, China.&#8221;
Highlighting that major synergies existed between RSMEG and YuuZoo&#8217;s other activities, Zilliacus added, &#8220;YuuZoo already has agreements in place in major markets with leading global and local names and brands in sports, beauty and fashion. Our business focus and our marketing is increasingly centred on them. Adding the entertainment sector and the big names RSMEG is and expects to be involved in ties perfectly into this strategy.”
