A Singaporean real-time data online marketplace, <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.datastreamx.com/" target="_blank">DataStreamX</a>, announced that it had raised S$500,000 ($370,000) in seed funding round, from angel investors.
Launched in April 2014, the <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://jfdi.asia/" target="_blank">JFDI</a> alumnus says that the funds will be used in talent acquisition, expanding the size of sales and technical teams in core markets. According to <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://sg.linkedin.com/in/mdavie" target="_blank">Mike Davie</a>, founder and CEO of DataStreamX, “Asia is a black hole of data, there’s a goldmine of information being generated but there isn’t an organised method of distribution.”
With the deluge of data generated by trends in Big Data, driven by the proliferation of smartphones, a growing middle-class across Southeast Asia and a growing user base of Internet users, DataStreamx has enough to leverage on and mine. It plans to use the data to address the needs of data analytics firms, marketing agencies and numerous other entities interested in the intelligence.
DataStreamX&#8217;s business model lies in enabling organisations to monetise their real-time data by streaming it through their proprietary information trading platform. Companies that may otherwise be unequipped or lacking in opportunity to communicate and share their data can subsequently leverage on the various real-time data sets available on the DataStreamX platform.
Speaking on the emerging market for data analytics and intelligence, Davie stated“[&#8230;] there’s still a lot to be done to make commercial data accessible across industries and countries for their own improvement.”
