Early-stage venture capital firm <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/sixth-sense" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sixth Sense Ventures</a> has closed its second fund at Rs 500 crore ($67.7 million), according to <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/sixth-sense-ventures-increases-size-of-second-fund-on-rising-interest-close-at-rs-500-crore/articleshow/66448929.cms" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a report</a> in The Economic Times.
The consumer-focused investor had initially set a target to raise Rs 250 crore for the fund, with a greenshoe option of an additional Rs 100 crore. However, positive interest from investors led the venture capital firm to increase the size of its fund.
According to the news report, the Ministry of Commerce has come in as an anchor investor in the fund with an investment of Rs 50 crore. The fund also attracted investments from large consumer and pharma companies, along with family offices and HNIs.
The company, which works on a zero per cent management fee structure, has invested in six companies from its new fund since April, chief executive Nikhil Vora told The Economic Times in an interview.
It plans to cut cheques of around Rs 15-20 crore across pre-series A and Series A stages in 15-20 companies, said Vora.
Vora, a former managing director at IDFC Securities and its co-head of research, launched Sixth Sense in 2013 to make early-stage investments in consumer-focused companies. Sixth Sense had raised Rs 125 crore for its first, seven-year rupee fund.
&#8220;Any business that has a long curve on the customer, i.e., stickiness, will be an area of interest. Consumer companies, where the lean on a consumer is long and the ability to disrupt that market is huge, are what we are excited about,&#8221; he said.
