<article><a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=SoftBank%20Ventures">SoftBank Ventures</a>, the early stage venture capital arm of Japan&#8217;s SoftBank Group, has led a $10-million Series A funding round of US-based artificial intelligence (AI)-driven biopharmaceutical firm <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=twoXAR">twoXAR Inc</a>.</article>

<a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=SoftBank%20Ventures">SoftBank Ventures</a>, the early stage venture capital arm of Japan&#8217;s SoftBank Group, has led a $10-million Series A funding round of US-based artificial intelligence (AI)-driven biopharmaceutical firm <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=twoXAR">twoXAR Inc</a>.
Proceeds from the funding round, which was also joined by existing investor Andreessen Horowitz Bio Fund and OS Fund, will be used to build twoXAR&#8217;s drug pipeline and accelerate preclinical development of existing candidates, twoXAR said in a statement.
The latest fundraising follows a $4.3-million seed round that twoXAR raised from investors, including Andreessen Horowitz, CLI Ventures, and the Stanford-StartX Fund.
With this financing, JP Lee, Managing Director at SoftBank Ventures, and Vijay Pande, General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz, have been appointed to the twoXAR Board of Directors.
Using its proprietary AI-driven platform, California-headquartered twoXAR claims to rapidly identify drug candidates for in vivo testing (an experiment that is done in the body of a living organism as opposed to in a laboratory method) in weeks rather than years.
“Traditional drug discovery and development is estimated to take 10-15 years and filter through 10,000 molecules for every one that is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration… AI-based platforms, such as twoXAR’s, are helping create portfolios of drug programs more efficiently through faster, more predictive models than traditional approaches,” twoXAR said.
“The company’s AI-driven discovery platform has the potential to transform the identification of new medicines and dramatically improve the success rates of preclinical development,” said JP Lee, Managing Director at SoftBank Ventures.
