Sony Innovation Fund, the corporate venture capital arm of Japan’s Sony Corporation, has participated in the $6-million funding round for MainStreaming, the EU-based technology provider of online streaming services for broadcasters, media and enterprise, according to a statement.

The funding round was led by Italian venture capital asset management company Indaco Venture Partners SGR and joined by existing investor United Ventures.

This is the first investment of Sony Innovation Fund in an Italian company. The investment brings Mainstreaming’s total capital raised to over $10 million so far.

The fund raised will be used to enhance MainStreaming’s position in its two core markets, broadcast and online gaming.

“It was the obvious choice in a world where consumer expectations around video quality and interactivity are of critical importance,” said Gen Tsuchikawa, CIO, Sony Innovation Fund, on the investment.
