Indonesian e-learning platform Squline has raised an undisclosed amount in Series A funding from local venture capital firm Investidea Ventures.
In an official release, the company said the fresh funding will be used to support its technology development, acquire new talent, and for product expansion in 2019.
Founded in 2014, Squline connects local students with professional teachers from around the Asia Pacific, enabling them to learn and improve foreign language skills via live video calls and text conversations.
The company started by launching a Mandarin course for Indonesian users in 2014, followed by an English course in 2015, and a Japanese course in 2016 for Indonesian users. This year, it launched an Indonesian course targeting expats in Indonesia and learners in the overseas markets.
“The product innovation in 2019 will develop more affordable solutions and an effective way to learn languages online. This will also drive market expansion to Indonesia’s B and C level of audience and upgrade their competitiveness level. As our core mission is to create a borderless learning environment,” said Squline co-founder &amp; CEO Tomy Yunus.
The new funding comes two years after the company raised its pre-Series A round, which was reportedly a six-digit figure investment led by Prasetia Dwidharma, a local telecommunication and infrastructure contractor.
Over the past couple of years, Indonesia has seen some big investments being poured into its edtech companies. Among the country&#8217;s most well-known edtech players that have raised Series B rounds are Ruangguru and HarukaEdu.
