India: Startups, investors should not lose sight of unit economics driving business

The disappointing performance of the startup IPO class of 2019, which included stars such as Uber Inc., and the public meltdown of WeWork, sent shock waves down the startup ecosystem globally, as well as in India. These incidents brought back the focus on the basics of building a business—unit economics, which has now become a very important part of a founders’ pitch and also a core subject in boardroom discussions.
