Mumbai-based investment firm <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/tata-capital" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tata Capital</a> is looking to launch an infrastructure debt fund to finance clean energy projects.
The company is in advanced stages of discussions with partners for the fund and will be applying for requisite approvals on finalisation of the plans, Tata Cleantech Capital managing director Manish Chourasia said in <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/banking/finance/banking/tata-capital-plans-infrastructure-debt-fund-for-green-projects/articleshow/66420995.cms" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an interview</a> to The Economic Times.
Tata Cleantech Capital is a joint venture between Tata Capital and International Finance Corporation, part of the World Bank group. It is registered with the Reserve Bank of India as a non-deposit accepting non-banking financial company.
As per the proposed structure, Tata Capital will own about 49 per cent stake in the company that will be floated to launch the fund, while its partners will own the rest.
The fund is likely to be structured like a non-banking finance company, which will help Tata Capital double its clean energy loan book from Rs 5,000 crore. The company has been lending to wind and solar energy projects.
&#8220;We are also helping clients such as multilateral financial institutions in monitoring their clean energy investments and enabling companies to raise capital or identify potential M&amp;A targets,&#8221; Chourasia told the newspaper.
Infrastructure debt fund non-banking financial companies are non-deposit accepting financial institutions that infuse long-term debt into the infrastructure sector. The debt fund means a pool of investment that holds an array fixed-income instruments such as bonds or debentures. They enjoy tax benefits.
