Singapore medtech company Advent Access has acquired the global manufacturing and commercialization rights to the Vwing Vascular Needle Guide product line and other key assets from US vascular technology firm Vital Access.
Advent Access is a spinoff from A*STAR. It raised a $1.9 million pre-Series A round led by Temasek Holdings’ unit Accuron MedTech last year.
Financial details of the current deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition of the assets is said to assist Advent’s strategy to establish a portfolio of vascular access solutions to address the key gaps in enabling hemodialysis to be delivered in novel or alternative care environments.
An implantable device designed to facilitate safe and reliable access to arteriovenous fistulas in obese patients, Vwing is currently marketed in the United States and also approved for use in markets including Europe, Canada and New Zealand.
The Vwing technology complements Advent’s av-Guardian technology, and the acquisition of the rights enhances the company’s potential global customer base and intellectual property portfolio, it said in a statement. The transaction also brings the total number of Advent’s patents and applications to 43, with a total of 510 issued claims.
“This acquisition is a strategic move to broaden our vascular access portfolio and accelerate our access to key global markets, particularly the US. Advent now owns one of the industry’s most extensive IP portfolios in technology-assisted use of AV fistulas,” said Peh Ruey Feng, founder and CEO of Advent Access.
Advent Access has recently completed all regulatory submission and key audits for the CE Mark in the European Union for its av-Guardian technology. The company said it is on track to gain the approval in early 2019.
