<a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Zhihu%20Technology">Zhihu Technology</a>, a <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Tencent">Tencent</a>-backed question-and-answer platform, has raised $300 million in a Series E funding round that valued the company at $2.5 billion, according to a 36Kr report.
The latest round of financing was joined by return backers Tencent and <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Capital%20Today">Capital Today</a>. The company has not issued an official statement about the funding round yet.
Zhihu is China&#8217;s version of US-based Q&amp;A site Quora, which was last valued at $1.8 billion in 2017. It is reportedly the biggest knowledge sharing platform in the country. According to a <a href="https://technode.com/2018/06/07/zhihu-chinas-largest-qa-platform-is-a-content-marketers-dream/">Technode article</a>, it claims to have 160 million registered users, with more than 26 million daily users who spend an hour on average on the site.
While its Q&amp;A platform remains free to use, Zhihu is able to monetise its large user base through revenue streams that include paid e-courses, consulting, interactive online Q&amp;As, pay-per-view live-streamed talks, podcasts and e-books.
The $300-million Series E brings the company&#8217;s total funding so far to $485 million. It first raised $8 million in a Series A in November 2011. In 2014, Zhihu raised $22 million in a Series B round.
Its Series C in November 2015 raised a total of $55 million while its Series D round in January 2017 secured $100 million in funding.
Last year, Lynk, a data-driven curation and knowledge sharing platform that connects enterprise users to experts in a variety of fields, founded by Peggy Choi, raised $4 million in a Series A funding round led by Southeast Asia-based Hong Leong Group.
