Thailand’s leading energy conglomerates <a href="http://www.pttplc.com/">PTT PLC </a>is looking for alliance for sourcing the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to serve the surging demand in Thailand.
Pailin Chuchottaworn, CEO and President of PTT, said that it aims to use the World Gas Conference 2015 in France as a stage to seek the significant partners for LNG supply in the long term.
It has talked to Chevron about the extension of the cooperation among the <a href="https://www.qatargas.com/English/Pages/default.aspx">Qatargas</a>, which currently supplies the LNG of 2 million tonnes a year to PTT. Besides, PTT’s executives have negotiated with other companies, including <a href="http://www.petronas.com.my/">Petronas</a> about trading LNG in the future.
“We would like to look for other alliances to bolster our LNG supply in the short term. In this conference, we expect to talk to <a href="http://www.total.com/">Total SA</a> and<a href="http://www.shell.com/"> Shell Corp </a>too,” he said.
Thailand’s petroleum reserves are decreasing continuously and it has been difficult to find new gas sources in the country. Therefore, the company is planning ahead in order to serve the rising demand for LNG, which normally grows in line with the country’s economy, particularly in the industrial and logistic sectors.
It forecasts that demand for natural gas this year will be around 4.8 billion cubic feet per day, a growth of 3-4 per cent on year.
Last year, it had supplied natural gas of 4.691 billion cubic feet per day, of which 78 per cent was from domestic production and the rest 22 per cent was imported.
The World Gas Conference 2015, organised every three years, is the world’s largest natural gas exhibition with the participation of more than 600 energy companies from 100 countries.
