Three months into its launch, and after having crossed a major milestone of one million page views, Thailand’s story-telling platform <a href="http://storylog.co/">Storylog</a>, one of the startups in the final round of Dtac Accelerate in 2014, plans to raise about $150,000 in March, in a pre-seed round.
The pre-seeding fund will be used to develop its website to version 2.0, which will be soft launched in June 2015.
However, co-founder and chief executive Pramewith “<a href="https://th.linkedin.com/pub/pramewith-sreechatthiwong/36/a21/911">Pippo</a>” Sreechatthiwong declined to reveal specific details of the new version for now. He said the company plans to start generating revenues by this year end.
Pippo said as against revenue maximisation, his priority is to enlarge its visitors and users base first.
“We will not collect money from users. One possible direction to make money is to promote the advertisement through story writing, and we need at least six or seven digits of user number,” he explained.
Over the first three months since its launch in November, it has a record of around 150,000 visitors, 35,000-50,000 of which are in the active group, while it has 500-600 writers and a record of page view almost reached one million views.
Pippo, who also works as a screenwriter and actor, had the idea to create Storylog because he did not want those good stories on facebook, blogs, or other social space to pass by and be forgotten in short time.
In the beginning, he wanted to develop it to be a platform for people to share their stories. But according to his informal survey, he found that 70 per cent of its writers have used Storylog to ‘keep’ their stories as online diary rather than to ‘share’ them with the expectation of the number of readers and comments, which incidentally helps the website differentiate itself from Thailand’s leading webboard “pantip”.
Meanwhile, it is obviously different from facebook, which people mostly post short personal message on status rather than write long stories.
“I also have a dream…a dream to see Storylog become one of the prior sites that people think of when they want to keep or share stories, or even search for information,” said Pippo.
