US-based in-car commerce startup Cargo has partnered with ride-hailing startup Grab to introduce Grab&amp;Go in Singapore.
The partnership with Grab also marks Cargo&#8217;s first international expansion beyond its US home ground. The startup has partnered with another ride-share player Uber, offering over 15 brands to passengers in the U.S.
&#8220;As the rideshare industry exploded, competition between the providers put downward pressure on fares, and therefore driver-partner income. We founded Cargo to help driver-partners earn more money while providing incremental benefit to passengers. Driver-partners supplying mints and water to passengers and Uber partnering one-off with Hershey and Pringles to distribute products to passengers, signaled that our thesis was correct: every rideshare vehicle has the necessary supply and demand conditions for a marketplace,&#8221; Cargo CEO, Jeff Cripe told DEALSTREETASIA in an email interaction.
Following the launch of Grab&amp;Go in Singapore, both Cargo and Grab plan to expand the offering in other Southeast Asian markets, but declined to identify which market will be next.
The partnership enables <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=grab">Grab </a>drivers to earn an additional S$75 ($56) to S$250 ($187) each month, regardless if the passenger made a purchase or took something for free, said Grab in a statement.
Grab&amp;Go has partnered with brands such as Kellogg’s, Biore UV, Novu and Unilever’s Lux Luminique to distribute complimentary products to passengers.
Breaking down the earnings, Cripe said, Grab&amp;Go driver-partners earn 20 per cent commission for every paid sale and earn a S$1 bonus on every transaction––on average, that amounts to S$75 – S$250 per month for driver-partners. The remainder of proceeds go to Grab&amp;Go.
Launched in 2017, Cargo has raised $8.5 million so far, the latest round being a $5.5 million seed preferred financing round in January, to scale and expand the startup. It aims to reach more than 25 million passengers across 20,000 vehicles in 2018.
Cripe declined to share if Grab&amp;Go is an exclusive partnership with Grab.
Indonesia&#8217;s ride-hailing startup Go-Jek which recently announced its <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/indonesias-go-jek-expansion-98433/">expansion into four Southeast Asian markets</a>, also offers lifestyle on-demand services via Go-Life.
