Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/Foundation-Capital/">Foundation Capital</a>, which has been an active investor in India, is seeking to raise $350 million for its ninth fund, according to an SEC filing, signed by Ashu Garg, general partner.
The new vehicle is seeking $25 million more than the eighth fund, Foundation Capital VIII, which raised $325 million in 2015.
Established in 1995 by Kathryn Gould, Jim Anderson and Bill Elmore, Palo Alto-based Foundation Capital is currently invested in more than 60 high-growth ventures in the areas of consumer, information technology, software, digital energy, financial technology and marketing technology.
The firm&#8217;s eighth fund was larger than its predecessor fund, which raised $282 million in 2013. The firm closed its sixth and largest fund at $750 million in April 2008, of which $250 million was to be allocated to expand the firm’s cleantech practice which began in 2003. The Foundation Capital VI fund then took the total amount raised by the firm to around $2.5 billion.
The venture firm has made quite a few investments in India including in Delhi-based Azure Power, an independent power producer. It led a $16.5 million funding round in Skycure, a start-up that helps companies protect their employees’ office phones from security threats, in July 2016. It has also backed real estate brokerage firm Agni Property, education services provider Aspire Human Capital Management, and playschool operator TreeHouse in the past.
Foundation Capital was one of the early backers in Netflix, American over-the-top media services provider, and is also an investor in American ride-hailing firm Uber. Its other global investments include AdRoll, Beepi, Bolt Threads, DogVacay, Kik, ForgeRock, Lending Home, Localytics and Visier.
The firm&#8217;s twenty-six IPOs include Lending Club, OnDeck, Chegg, Sunrun, MobileIron, Control4, TubeMogul, Envestnet, Financial Engines, Netflix, NetZero, Responsys and Silver Spring Networks.
