<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=sabeco">Sabeco</a>, the largest brewer in the Vietnam’s fast-growing beer market, is slated for its much-awaited public listing by the end of this year, according to the latest approval by the local government.
The beer maker had earlier proposed to list its shares on the southern Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE). In the latest development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, which represents the state ownership in Sabeco, has approved the company&#8217;s listing process within 12 weeks.
The state owns 89.59 per cent in Sabeco and, the listing exercise will lead to complete divestment of government holding in the brewer.
As per the divestment schedule, Vietnam planned to sell a tranche of 53.59 per cent stake in Sabeco this year in a likely $1-billion deal with the remaining stake to be offloaded in 2017.
<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.maybank-kimeng.com.vn/kimengportal/"> Maybank Kim Eng Secruties</a>, the first wholly foreign owned brokerage house in Vietnam, is advising the transaction.
Sabeco was privatized in 2008 after it sold over 10 per cent equity to strategic shareholders including Dutch brewer <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=heineken">Heineken</a>, and general investors. Before the public listing proposal, the company&#8217;s stock traded on the over-the-counter market in the VND60,000-80,000 price range.
However, the proposed HOSE debut has triggered more interest from investors and Sabeco unit price on the OTC exchange has risen to as high as VND120,000 ($5.4) recently.
With an estimated market capitalization of $3.5 billion, Sabeco will join the top blue-chip stocks such as state-controlled dairy firm <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=vinamilk">Vinamilk</a>, <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.pvgas.com.vn/home">PetroVietnam Gas</a>, <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=vietcombank">Vietcombank</a> and property giant <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=vingroup">Vingroup</a>.
Sabeco gained a 43 per cent market share last year when beer consumption in the country reached 3.4 billion litres.
