Vietnamese P2P lending startup Tima has made a senior-level appointment to its executive team and seeks to close its Series C funding round by the second quarter this year, a senior executive of the company told this portal.
According to an official statement, <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/LendingClub/">LendingClub</a> former COO John Donovan has joined Tima’s Board of Directors. He played a critical role in building and managing risk, finance, treasury and overall operations. Founded in 2006 in San Francisco, LendingClub is a leading peer-to-peer lending platform where people borrow and lend money, and get better rates. The company claims that $42 billion in loans have originated through its platform up to now.

Donovan has over 20 years of financial technology leadership experience at companies including Wheat Financial, MasterCard, Finsight Ventures, Border Free and Bizfi small business lending.
“As consumers go online around the world, they look to access financial services in a more efficient and fair way.  I look forward to working on the Board of Tima to help this happen in Vietnam,” Donovan said.
At the same time, Tima also announced that it is seeking to raise $8 million in a Series C funding round, expected to be closed by Q2 this year.
The fund raised will be used for operation improvement, network expansion and R&amp;D, according to Tima co-founder &amp; board member Cong Tran.
Launched in 2015, the platform has seen cumulative money from its lender partners reach approximately $2.4 billion.
Vietnam&#8217;s financial marketplace and P2P lending platform have been working with 30,691 lenders who are financial units, investors and credit institutions. To date, more than two million cumulative transactions have happened via its platform.
Mekong-focused venture capital firm Belt Road Capital Management (BRCM) has injected $3 million in a Series B funding round of Tima. In 2016, Tima closed a seven-digit US dollar Series A funding from Dunearn Singapore Fund and G Capital.
