Vietnam’s incubator <a href="http://www.hatch.vn/" target="_blank">HATCH! PROGRAM</a> launched HATCH! ANGEL, a private angel investor group and network, on Thursday, aiming to create a platform to facilitate the investment in startups.
HATCH! PROGRAM plans to establish a common forum for angel investors to share investment knowledge and experience. The initiative will introduce quality investment opportunities and provide its angel members a platform for sharing risk, as well as support during the process of investing in startups, which includes seminars, workshops, networking, due diligence with subject matter and industry experts, and follow-up with deal flows.
Members of HATCH! ANGEL, who are often independent business owners or senior corporate executives, will be sophisticated investors and have interest and willingness to invest in upstart companies, typically in the early stage.
The startup ecosystem in Vietnam has been growing rapidly in the last three years, with a marked rise in the number of startups that have successfully raised rounds of external funding. The country has seen establishment of several incubators and accelerators to support startups with a network and access to resources for better preparation to reach venture funding level.

However, the number of startups joining supporting organisations, for initial funding and mentorship, is limited. As a result, entrepreneurs have inadequate funding to sustain an early stage business.
“Angel investor networks are a critical part of the infrastructure of a vibrant innovation community, and this has been lacking or limited in development in Vietnam. I’m pleased to see HATCH! PROGRAM addressing this challenge directly with HATCH! ANGEL,” said Csaba Bundik, strategic advisor for HATCH! PROGRAM and vice chairman of the Central and Eastern European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam.

HATCH! ANGEL is seeking potential investments in technology, education and agriculture, where innovation technology is the focus. Angel investors, in the system, will make investment decisions and actively conduct their own independent investigation for each investment opportunity, in order to proceed with the investment deals, after monthly pitching and networking events organised by the group.
Operating since 2012, HATCH! PROGRAM is one of Vietnam’s larger, established grassroots entrepreneurship community and has supported over 45 startup companies. “With the launch of HATCH! ANGEL, early stage startup companies will have a new and needed source of private investment capital,” Bundik said.
