<a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Warburg%20Pincus">Warburg Pincus</a> has led the $140-million Series D funding round in Beijing-based education services provider <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Gaosi%20Education%20Group">Gaosi Education Group</a>, further boosting the global private equity firm&#8217;s education portfolio.
In a statement seen by <a href="https://www.caixinglobal.com/2019-04-19/education-services-provider-gaosi-raises-140-million-101406411.html">Caixin Global</a>, Gaosi Education founder and CEO Xu Jicheng said the fundraising amount is one of the biggest in the history for educational firms that provide services for corporate clients in the field of K12 education.
The funding round brought Gaosi&#8217;s total funding amount to $286.4 million, over four rounds, according to Crunchbase. The company did not disclose the amount it raised in its Series A round in 2011.
Founded in 2009, Gaosi offers online live streaming courses teaching Chinese, English, math, history, chemistry, and physics coupled with offline training centers for selected topics.
Gaosi, headquartered in Haidian District, Beijing, currently has nearly 10,000 students and 100 full-time teachers and personnel of teaching and researching teams. The fresh funding is likely to be spent on product research and development.
Warburg Pincus managing director Gordon Ding was quoted in the report as saying that K12 extracurricular tutoring in China is a promising field that has the &#8220;potential to grow into a trillion-yuan market&#8221;.
The private equity firm has recently been beefing up its education portfolio. In January, the firm led a $225-million Series D round in China&#8217;s online English tutoring platform <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=DaDa">DaDa</a>, formerly DaDaABC.
Established in 2013, Shanghai-based DaDa operates an artificial intelligence-powered online-streaming portal that helps K-12 children aged 4 to 16 to learn English from native speakers. It tailors its services to follow overseas curriculum, partnering with the American TESOL Institute, Pearson Test of English.
Chinese education startups are continuing to pull in massive funding rounds. Recently, Beijing-based online tutoring firm <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Yuanfudao">Yuanfudao</a> has raised $300 million in its latest round of funding at a valuation of over $3 billion.
The funding round was led by Tencent Holdings and joined by Warburg Pincus, Matrix Partners China, and IDG Capital. Chinese online education company Zuoyebang also raised $350 million in its series D financing.
