Global private equity firm Warburg Pincus is looking to raise as much as $13.75 billion &#8211; its largest amount to date &#8211; for its upcoming Global Growth Fund, according to an SEC filing.
The filing noted that the fund has yet to secure any commitments so far. The development was first reported by Private Equity International this January.
New York-based Warburg Pincus last raised $12 billion for its twelfth global fund &#8211; Warburg Pincuss XII, in November 2015, after launching the fund in May 2015. The LPs of the fund include public and private pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, insurance companies, endowments, foundation and high-net-worth individuals.
The PE firm said it invests globally in businesses at all stages of development with a focus on five key sectors &#8211; energy, financial service, healthcare and consumer, industrial and business services, as well as technology, media and telecommunications.
In Asia, the firm recently invested $181 million into Hong Kong-based Weave Co-Living with an option to hike its stake up to $413.5 million in the future. With a total AUM of $47 billion, Warburg Pincus entered Asia in 1994, and has since invested over $17 billion in more than 170 companies in China, India and Southeast Asia.
Warburg Pincus&#8217; Southeast Asia chief Jeffrey Perlman <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/se-asia-unlikely-to-see-a-large-number-of-mid-market-firms-says-perlman-of-warburg-pincus-105011/">had told this portal</a> that the firm is not looking to set up a Southeast Asia-focused fund to invest in the region but will continue to invest in the region through its global and other companion funds.
The firm started investing in the region in 2013, with Vietnam as its maiden market. Since then, it has invested in several companies including Vincom Retail, Lodgis Hospitality, ARA Asset Management, Go-Jek, NWP Retail, OnlinePajak and Trax.
Although it is unclear how much is Warburg Pincus looking to allocate for Asia, other private equity funds focused on the region have been increasing their vehicle sizes. Hong Kong-based PAG announced on Monday that it had closed a $6 billion Asia fund while Hillhouse Capital had gathered a record $10.6 billion, taking over KKR&#8217;s $9.3 billion raised last year.
While Hong Kong-based Baring Private Equity Asia is also targeting to raise up to $6 billion for its seventh vehicle, having recently hit the first close at $4.5 billion. This portal had first reported CVC Capital Partners is targeting to raise $4 billion to $5 billion for its fifth Asia fund and is looking to hit the first close by the first quarter of 2019.
