As it marks its entry into Japan, US and Mumbai-based wearable devices maker <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/goqii" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GOQii Inc</a> has raised a series B round of funding led by Japanese conglomerate <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/mitsui" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mitsui &amp; Co., Ltd</a>.
While the company did not disclose the amount raised in the round, a source-based report in The Economic Times pegged it at $30-35 million.
According to an official statement, new investors including Galaxy EOS VC Fund and Denlow Investment Trust, along with existing backers NEA, DSG Consumer Partners, Vijay Shekhar Sharma and Ratan Tata also participated in the latest fundraise.
Trifecta Capital also provided venture debt to the company.
The funds will be used by GOQii for talent and headcount addition, marketing and geographical expansion. The company will further strengthen its big data analytics and artificial intelligence platform to drive actionable insights, it said.
Along with the investment which will help GOQii to penetrate further into India, Mitsui and GOQII have also agreed for joint collaboration.
Mitsui has one of the largest healthcare related portfolios globally including investments spanning hospitals, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and dialysis clinics.
&#8220;GOQii’s product offering is highly complementary to our portfolio of healthcare investments in India and globally and we see several areas of immediate collaboration between us and GOQii,&#8221; said Koji Nagatomi, COO of the Healthcare &amp; Service Business Unit of Mitsui.
&#8220;Mitsui is keen to develop new business and services in the Japanese preventive healthcare sector with the aim of providing further solutions to the evolving issues of today’s Japanese society.  Upon GOQii’s entry into the Japanese market, we will seek cooperation between GOQii and our affiliated companies to realise our ambitions,&#8221; he added.
Mitsui &amp; Co has earlier made a few investments in India’s healthcare industry, including hospital chains Columbia Asia and IHH, which acquired Fortis Healthcare this year.
GOQii was founded in India by Vishal Gondal, who had earlier founded online and mobile gaming company IndiaGames, which he sold to Walt Disney in 2011 in a deal valued at $80-100 million.
GOQii provides wearable agnostic app, guidance from global experts, coaching counsel and the ability to support a cause that matters.
