<h3><b>American Tower Corp acquired 51% in Viom Networks</b></h3>
<p>American Tower Corporation (ATC) acquired 51 per cent stake in Viom Networks, a joint venture between Tata Teleservices and Quippo, making it the largest inbound M&amp;A deal in terms of size in 2015. Viom currently owns and operates approximately 42,200 wireless communications towers and 200 indoor distributed antenna systems across India. It is also ATC’s biggest acquisition in India since it entered eight years ago. The last big deal was in 2010 when ATC acquired 4,630 towers from the Essar Group for about Rs 2,000 crore.</p>

<h3><b>Lupin buys Gavis Pharma for $880m</b></h3>
<p>Lupin Ltd, India&#8217;s third-largest drug maker by sales, acquired New Jersey-based generic drugs firm Gavis Pharmaceuticals LLC and Novel Laboratories Inc. for $880 million. It is the biggest buyout of a foreign asset by an Indian pharma company after Dr Reddy&#8217;s purchase of Germany&#8217;s betapharm for $572 million in 2006. GAVIS brings to Lupin a highly skilled US based R&amp;D organisation which would complement Lupin’s Coral Springs, Florida, inhalation R&amp;D centre. GAVIS’s New Jersey based manufacturing facility will become Lupin’s first manufacturing site in the US. The combined company will have a portfolio of 101 in-market products, 164 cumulative filings pending approval and a deep pipeline of products under development for the US.</p>
<h3><b>Birla picks Lafarge India’s two cement units for $760m</b></h3>
<p>Birla Corporation acquired two cements units of Lafarge India for an enterprise value of Rs 5,000 crore. The two cement units are located at Sonadih (Chhattisgarh) and Jojobera (Jharkhand), respectively. The acquisition has further augmented the cement making capacity of Birla Corp to 15 mtpa from 10mtpa. Prior to this acquisition, Birla owned manufacturing plants in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh. Upon completion of this transaction, Birla Corp will consolidate its position in the Eastern India cement market where demand supply scenario and outlook continue to remain buoyant.</p>

<h3><b>Dutch drug firm Mylan acquires Jai Pharma</b></h3>
<p>Pharma major Mylan N.V. acquired certain women&#8217;s healthcare businesses, now known as Jai Pharma, which were spun off from Famy Care Ltd. The transaction brought Mylan a broad women&#8217;s care portfolio, strong technical capabilities and dedicated hormone manufacturing, which, when combined with Mylan&#8217;s expansive global commercial footprint and supply chain infrastructure, will create a leading women&#8217;s healthcare franchise.</p>
<h3><b>Bharti Enterprises buys minority stake in OneWeb for $500m</b></h3>
<p>Bharti Enterprises, one of India’s leading business groups, acquired a strategic minority stake in OneWeb, a global consortium comprising Qualcomm, Virgin Group, Airbus, Coca Cola, Intelsat and Grupo Salinas, among others, with an aim to provide affordable internet access to all. As one of the founding members of OneWeb, Bharti also got representation on the board of the company. The OneWeb aims to build a communications network with an initial constellation of 648 Low Earth Orbit satellites and has formed a joint venture with Airbus Defence and Space as the design and manufacturing partner for its microsatellites. It will also buy more than 65 rockets from Arianespace and Virgin Galactic for launching the satellites. Bharti Airtel, a Bharti group company with operations in 20 countries across Asia and Africa, will be able to leverage the investment by becoming a preferred distributor of these services across its operations.</p>
