<a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Yoma+Bank" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Yoma Bank</a> has extended a total loan financing of K8 billion ($5 million) to Delta Capital Myanmar-backed <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=MC+Easy+Microfinance+Co+Ltd" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MC Easy Microfinance Co Ltd</a> (Easy Microfinance), which operates in Myanmar, according to an announcement.
Yoma extended the first tranche of K4 billion ($2.5 million) in September this year while the second installment of $2.5 million was completed in October.
With the latest financing, Easy Microfinance will be able serve an additional 28,000 borrowers, particularly micro-entrepreneurs and small business owners as an add-on to its current 70,000 active clients.
The financing would enable Easy Microfinance to expand its geographical footprint and its borrower base, said Frank Snieders, managing director, Easy Microfinance, in a statement.
Easy Microfinance claims to have a loan portfolio of more than K20 billion ($12.5 million), operating through 12 branch offices across Yangon, Naypyidaw, Sagaing, Magway, Mon and Kayin regions.
“In pioneering support for Myanmar’s MFIs, Yoma Bank has provided 80 billion kyat of funding which goes directly to improving the livelihoods of tens of thousands of Myanmar through the development of entrepreneurship and business development. Our partnership with Easy Microfinance represents another step in Myanmar’s economic development,” said Hal Bosher, advisor to the chairman and CEO of Yoma Bank.
Easy Microfinance, which started operations in 2016, targets low-income families and very small business owners, offering loans of up to K1 million ($627) and an individual business loan of up to K10 million ($6270) for small businesses.
Easy Microfinance’s shareholders include Meridian Capital and Delta Capital, which have committed an equity investment of  $15 million in the entity. The investors are willing to commit follow-on investments based on the growing needs of the company.
Easy Microfinance is the tenth MFI in Myanmar that Yoma Bank has extended financing to in the last year.
Other microfinance companies in Myanmar that Yoma Bank has financed include BRAC Myanmar Microfinance Company Limited, VisionFund Myanmar, Pact Global, Advans Myanmar, Myanmar Finance International Limited and Maha Agriculture Microfinance.
