DBS on Friday appointed Kyle Tan as managing director and head of global financial markets for its Hong Kong arm, as Southeast Asia’s largest lender seeks to strengthen its presence in Greater China.
Tan will join the Hong Kong management committee and succeed Jeremy Kok, who will become the head of group structuring, Singapore and North Asia trading, the bank said in a statement.
DBS’ Hong Kong operations directly compete with lenders such as HSBC, Standard Chartered, and BOC Hong Kong in the Greater China capital markets, underscoring the importance of Tan’s appointment.
As a key gateway between China and global investors, Hong Kong plays a pivotal role in cross-border capital flows. DBS’ markets trading segment, which Tan will oversee, is central to these flows.
Tan brings nearly three decades of experience and joins from DBS China, where he served as head of trading, head of global financial markets, and most recently as deputy CEO.
“His extensive banking experience and deep understanding of China’s financial markets will be invaluable for DBS Hong Kong,” CEO of DBS Hong Kong Sebastian Paredes said.
