The Indonesian government is teaming up with a Silicon Valley technology firm Spire Global to pinpoint the location of illegal fishing vessels trawling its waters. The technology will allow Indonesia to better monitor, supervise and manage its 5.8-million square kilometre exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Spire Global said a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia has been signed. The company, which runs a fleet of nano-satellites, provides advanced maritime tracking data that is updated on an hourly basis.
