Micro venture capital firm <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/quarizon" target="_blank">Quarizon</a> is planning to launch its own accelerator programme next year on the lines of US-based seed accelerator <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/ycombinator" target="_blank">YCombinator</a>.
However, unlike the American investor, Quarizon plans to introduce an 11-month programme to mentor startups after which it would help the startups to reach the next level of financing and operations, Gitanjali Puri, Principal Advisor, Quarizon told DEALSTREETASIA.
Y Combinator invests a small amount of money, around $120,000 in a number of startups, twice a year. Under its programme,the startups move to Silicon Valley for 3 months, during which we work intensively with them to get the company into the best possible shape and refine their pitch to investors.
&#8220;We are an accelerator fund that’s how we position ourselves. Accelerator is something that we are working towards and will be announcing soon,&#8221; she said.
Founded this year, Quarizon is an early-stage, Delhi-based fund, interested in funding start-ups in segments such as education technology, information technology and Internet of things, among others.
At present, Quarizon comes in at the seed or pre-Series A level  has invested in in about eight startups from its first fund including recent investments in <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/pictor" target="_blank">Pictor</a>,<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/chai-thela" target="_blank"> Chai Thela</a>, <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/streo" target="_blank">Streo</a> and <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/beatroute" target="_blank">BeatRoute</a>.
While its first fund was of Rs 12 crore ($1.8 million), the micro VC is in the process of raising its second fund of about Rs 20 crore ($2.9 million).
Quarizon is likely to make the first close of the new fund in the next two months, with the aim of achieving its final close by &#8220;the summer of 2017&#8221;.
&#8220;The first fund we have already invested in 7-8 companies and ur sweet spot is typically Rs 1-1.5 crore and we look at 10% equity in return for that and a board seat. And then we very actively help the startup to scale up. e.g, Chaithela was one of investments, Beat Route, Pictor, <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/tripshelf" target="_blank">TripShelf</a>,&#8221; Puri said.
&#8220;We haven’t started deploying our second fund yet we are just doing our investment reviews, making our shortlists,&#8221; she added.
The second fund would also be used to fund follow-on investments in the existing portfolio apart from 8-10 new investments.
&#8220;We are looking at making a curated list of investments in companies that have a very innovative or disruptive business model. The other thing is the founder profile that we look at very closely. And third is that the company should have a minimum viable product. So that we are not only funding ideas and concepts. Also they should have some revenue, so we want to see some action on the customer side. It should not be at a theoretical level, prototype with no customers,&#8221; Puri said while detailing what Quarizon looks at before investing in a startup.
