Australian private equity firm BGH Capital has hired a Blackstone deal-maker while South Korea&#8217;s NPS has promoted its global PE head to its alternative investment division.
<h3>Blackstone loses Australia PE managing director to BGH</h3>
<a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=BGH%20Capital">BGH Capital</a>, a new private equity player in Australia, has hired Jonathan Chamberlain, Sydney-based managing director for private equity at <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Blackstone">Blackstone</a>, as a partner.
According to a report by the Australian Financial Review, Chamberlain will join other partners at BGH Capital. The partners include former Credit Suisse managing director Stephanie Charles, ex-TPG principal David Brooks, and former Wesfarmers finance director Terry Brooks.
Blackstone has not commented on the move. It also did not disclose Chamberlain&#8217;s replacement.
In May, Melbourne-headquartered private equity firm BGH Capital successfully closed its first fund, BGH Capital Fund, at a hard cap of around A$2.6 billion ($1.96 billion). According to BGH, the fundraising marks the largest-ever debut PE fund raised for investments in Australia and New Zealand.
BGH Capital was founded in 2017 by former Macquarie Capital Australia and New Zealand head Robin Bishop, former TPG Capital Australia and New Zealand PE head Ben Gray and former TPG exec Simon Harle.
<h3>S Korea&#8217;s National Pension Service names new global alt investment head</h3>
<a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=National Pension Service">National Pension Service</a> (NPS), a public pension fund in South Korea, has announced the promotion of its global private equity head, Hyung-Don Choe, as its new global alternative investment boss.
Choe, the longest-serving asset manager in the NPS&#8217; global alternative unit, has been acting head of the global alternative division for over a year. He joined the pension fund in 2006.
NPS had seen an unprecedented series of resignation by its senior investment managers recently. Among the exits was Jae-Bum Kim, the fund&#8217;s domestic alternative head.
Aside from Choe, NPS also promoted Hyeong-Ju Lim, team head of global equity investment outsourcing, as global public market division chief.
