The appointment of JingChi&#8217;s new CEO comes days after China’s largest online search engine operator Baidu dropped its lawsuit against JingChi over alleged theft of technology secrets by former Baidu driverless car chief Wang Jing who had co-founded startup in 2017.</article>

Chinese autonomous driving startup <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/china-self-drive-startup-jingchi-closes-52m-pre-series-led-qiming-venture-83020/">JingChi </a>has announced the appointment of co-founder and former <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/baidus-iqiyi-bofa-credit-suisse-goldman-us-ipo-84303/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Baidu&#8217;s</a> Autonomous Driving Unit executive Tony Han as its chief executive officer.
The appointment of JingChi&#8217;s new CEO comes days after China’s largest online search engine operator Baidu dropped its lawsuit against JingChi over alleged theft of technology secrets by former Baidu driverless car chief Wang Jing who had co-founded startup in 2017.
In December, Baidu filed a suit worth $7.9 million against Wang who later stepped down from the role of CEO at JingChi.
In a slew of other appointments, JingChi named its co-founder Qing Lu (former CFO of Velodyne LiDAR) as CFO; other co-founder Yan Li (ex-engineering head of Ucar US) as CTO; Qingxiong Yang (former senior director at Didi Chuxing) as VP Engineering; and former Cisco China SVP Li Zhang as VP Operations.
It has also appointed two strategic advisors – Dian Kang, former Chairman &amp; CEO of New China Insurance, and Dr Takeo Kanade, Professor of Carnegie Mellon University and elected member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Tony Han is former chief scientist at Baidu&#8217;s Autonomous Driving Unit and a tenured Professor of Electrical &amp; Computer Engineering at the University of Missouri (MU) and a winner of multiple worldwide challenges in computer vision and machine learning.
Founded by (Tony) Han Xu, Qing Lu, and Dr. Yan Li, JingChi aims to be the first company to achieve large-scale, commercial deployment of fully Level 4 autonomous vehicles in China.
Established in the US, it subsequently shifted its headquarters to Guangzhou in late 2017. According to reports, it plans to produce 500 to 1000 autonomous driving vehicles this year.
