Steve Leonard, the chief executive of government-backed investment organisation SGInnovate, maintains that despite growing global competition amongst startup ecosystems, Singapore’s strong fundamentals of capital, connectivity and its existing entrepreneurial community translate to a strong foundation for further growth of the city-state’s startup ecosystem.
Notably, of the prevailing factors cited as an inhibitor in Singapore is a scarcity of talent as startup ventures scale up their operations. In an interaction with DEALSTREETASIA, Leonard noted that despite competition for global talent with the likes of Switzerland, Denmark and Canada, foreign founders coming in could keep up despite talent constraints.
