<article><a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/google" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Google</a> has acquired <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/sigmoid" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sigmoid Labs</a>, the developer of the transportation application ‘Where is my Train’, for an undisclosed amount.</article>

<a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/google" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Google</a> has acquired <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/sigmoid" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sigmoid Labs</a>, the developer of the transportation application ‘Where is my Train’, for an undisclosed amount.
Where is my Train provides real-time information on the status of trains in India. The app can work without the internet or GPS as it uses cell tower information to search for the location. It has an offline timetable of Indian Railways. The app also provides seat availability and PNR status within the app.
It competes with Nandan Nilekani-backed <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/railyatri" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RailYatri</a> and <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/ixigo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">iXigo</a>, which is backed by venture capital firms Sequoia Capital and SAIF Partners. The startup was set up by five former executives of US-based TiVo Corporation. Currently, it has 10 members in its team. Owned and run by Sigmoid Labs, Where Is My Train has so far seen over 10 million downloads in the country.
&#8220;We created the “Where is my train” app with the mission to use technology to improve the lives of millions of Indian train travellers. Over time, we’ve improved the app to make it even more convenient and useful, and we’re thrilled with the response that we’ve gotten from users,&#8221; the Bengaluru-based startup said on its website.

That’s why we’re excited to share that Sigmoid Labs, the team behind the “Where is my train” app, is joining Google. We can think of no better place to help us achieve our mission, and we’re excited to join Google to help bring technology and information into more people’s hands,&#8221; it added.
While financial details of the deal were not disclosed, earlier media reports had said that Google was planning on acquiring Sigmoid for around $30-40 million. It was also reported that Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi was also looking to invest in Sigmoid.
Google has made selective bets in India earlier as well. In December last year, the internet giant led a $12-million Series B funding round for Bengaluru-based hyperlocal concierge and delivery player Dunzo. Prior to that in July last year, Alphabet Inc acqui-hired Bangalore-based artificial intelligence venture Halli Labs.
