A Grab-Gojek union? Hope wrapped in a tangled mess of issues

With economics that make sense but a tangled mess of issues getting in the way, speculation about a merger of Southeast Asia’s super app decacorns has long hovered on the edge of plausibility.

The Information on Monday reported that Singapore-based Grab and Indonesia-headquartered Gojek have held discussions on a merger, citing sources. It added that a meeting, presumably to discuss a merger, was held between Grab president Ming Maa and Gojek co-CEOs Kevin Aluwi and Andre Soelistyo earlier this month.
