Indian edtechs went on a fundraising spree in 2020 but still trail global standards

The COVID-induced lockdown may have closed down schools for a prolonged period in India, but the education sector is thriving, albeit online.

The edtech sector, where startups raised $1.78 billion from 103 deals last year, was second only to e-commerce (over $2 billion from 131 deals) in terms of fundraising. The two sectors shored up fundraising in 2020, when Indian startups raked in $11.65 billion worth of deals.
