Israeli cyber startup <a href="http://www.fireblade.com" target="_blank">Fireblade</a> has been acquired by <a href="https://www.stackpath.com" target="_blank">StackPath</a>, a young American startup venture whilst discovery platform <a href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Taboola" target="_blank">Taboola</a> has entered an agreement to acquire <a href="http://convertmedia.com" target="_blank">ConvertMedia</a>.
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">StackPath acquires Fireblade</h3>
Texas-based StackPath <a href="http://www.globes.co.il/en/article-stackpath-acquires-israel-co-fireblade-for-20m-1001141994" target="_blank">has acquired </a>Israeli website security company Fireblade in a deal estimated at approximately $20 million. No other financial details of the deal was disclosed.
Fireblade will be joining three other companies acquired by the American SaaS startup, which was founded only a year ago. Fireblade provides provides website security in the cloud by relying on user&#8217;s behaviours and reputations rather than costly web application firewalls.
StackPath, which was founded by CEO Lance Crosby, is a frictionless and scalable security platform that can accommodate heavy internet traffic, increasingly complex web applications, explosive growth in number of devices, and a rapidly evolving threat landscape.
Crosby was also the founder and former chairman and CEO of SotLayer Technologies, a company that was bough over by <a href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=IBM+" target="_blank">IBM </a>for $2 billion in 2013. The company reportedly served as the basis for IBM&#8221;s Cloud Computing division.
In an <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.forbes.com/sites/alexkonrad/2016/07/25/softlayer-founder-unveils-security-startup-stackpath/#52106485650d" target="_blank">interaction</a> with Forbes, Crosby said, &#8220;We were leveraging legacy security products in a cloud-like way, but nothing was fully based on the cloud. It was obvious that somebody had to fix this so that security could work on both sides of the fence, on-premise and in the cloud.&#8221;
Shortly after StackPath was formed and the new company has already began to make headlines. In its Series A funding, it raised $150 million and acquired at least four other startups that provide varying cloud security services for businesses.
<a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/us-stackpath-fundraising-idUSKCN1051AL" target="_blank">According to Reuters</a>, the deal is the largest single financing founds for a private cybersecurity firm. According to CB Insights, the deal was also substantially greater than traditional early stage rounds which average in at about $7.8 million.
The largest cyber deal has been VMware&#8217;s acquisition of AirWatch at $225 million in a Series-A funding round back in 2014.
StackPath also has more than 30,000 customers, including large businesses and startups. According to Crosby, the company aims to be a full-stack cloud security platform.
Its security services are already offered as standalone products or as an integrated suite of services that work with both on-premise infrastructure and public clouds including Amazon, Microsoft and Google, according to Crosby.
Founded in 2008, Fireblade has raised $5.1million from investors such as <a href="http://time.com" target="_blank">Time</a>, <a href="https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/blue-ant-investments#/entity" target="_blank">Blue Ant Investments</a>, <a href="http://www.kecventures.com" target="_blank">KEC Ventures</a>, <a href="http://www.sg-vc.com" target="_blank">SGVC,</a> and <a href="https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/lazarus-israel-opportunities-fund#/entity" target="_blank">Lazarus Israel Opportunities Fund</a>. Its customers include <a href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=eBay" target="_blank">eBay</a>, <a href="http://www.cellartracker.com" target="_blank">Cellar Tracker</a>, <a href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=DCH" target="_blank">DCH</a>, and Israeli company Yad2.
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">Taboola enters agreement to acquire ConvertMedia</h3>
Content discovery platform Taboola, <a href="https://globenewswire.com/news-release/2016/07/26/858955/0/en/Taboola-Enters-Agreement-to-Acquire-ConvertMedia-a-Hyper-Growth-Outstream-Company-with-a-50M-Run-Rate-to-offer-Facebook-like-In-Feed-Video-Experiences-Projecting-a-Billion-Video-St.html" target="_blank">announced last Tuesday </a>that it is acquiring New York City-based ConvertMedia, an out-stream video advertising firm,.
The acquisition is a strategic bid to add native video advertising to its offerings, with the value of the deal estimated to be just under $100 million in value.
Founded in 2009, Taboola which made the &#8220;You may like this&#8221; feature, is set to gain a competitive edge as  they become better positioned to drive better user experience and holistic monetisation for publishers who seek high-quality video supply.
Israel-based ConvertMedia has drawn plenty of success in the video space, with revenue growth that saw it reporting $50 million in annual revenue in 2016.
Commenting on the acquisition, Yoav Naveh, co-founder and CEO at ConvertMedia, said &#8220;There is a natural synergy between the vision, technology and culture at Taboola and ConvertMedia. With the growth in ad blocking and banner blindness, advertisers and publishers need to reach consumers with relevant and viewable experiences at scale.&#8221;
“The natural integration with Taboola allows us to better help publishers navigate the balance between user experience and quality controls, while exceeding revenue goals. We’re excited to give publishers unprecedented scale to reach consumers with new information and experiences, and help build out the content discovery category,&#8221; he added.
Taboola has been aiming to consolidate its position in the native ads space. <a href="http://marketingland.com/taboola-buys-video-ad-firm-convertmedia-186070" target="_blank">Back in March</a>, the company launched its native ad server, Taboola Native. The white-label version of Taboola&#8217;s predictive technology is already being used by <a href="http://www.nbcnews.com" target="_blank">NBCNews</a>, <a href="http://www.independent.co.uk" target="_blank">The Independent</a>, <a href="http://www.rd.com" target="_blank">Reader&#8217;s Digest</a> and others.
According to Taboola CEO and founder Adam Singolda, the current web is divided into a series of &#8220;walled gardens and everything else,&#8221; arguing that the &#8220;future of publishers’ cross-screen monetization is two-fold: first, content recommendations using image, title and URL, and second, video.&#8221;
Singolda maintains that by leveraging data and personalisation, an enhanced user experience that can drive revenue growth for publishers.
