Japanese venture capital and private equity firm <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=JAFCO">JAFCO</a> has obtained approval to operate a domestic fund management company in China, through its subsidiary JAFCO Asia, the Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed firm said.
In a disclosure on Monday, JAFCO said, its Singapore-headquartered subsidiary has obtained approval from the <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Asset Management Association of China">Asset Management Association of China t</a>o operate JAFCO Asia (Shanghai) Equity Investment Management Co Ltd.
JAFCO Asia, one of the early movers in the venture capital space, has been operating in China since 2002 via its representative offices in Shanghai and Beijing.
With the appropriate approval, JAFCO Asia will start to make investments in China in RMB via an RMB Fund.
&#8220;The launch of an onshore RMB Fund adds to the investment capabilities of JAFCO Asia and will better serve investors, partners, and local Chinese entrepreneurs,&#8221; JAFCO said.
The establishment of the fund management company and the RMB Fund in China &#8220;marks a very significant milestone for JAFCO Asia and demonstrates the focus, commitment, and belief it has in China&#8221;, the firm added.
On its website, JAFCO said, it had established over 100 investment funds with total commitments of approximately ¥970 billion ($8.76 billion) as of the end of March 2017.
JAFCO has about 1,200 investors in its funds, including financial institutions, pension funds, and business corporations.
Meanwhile, JAFCO said, it will relocate its headquarters to Toranomo Hills Mori Tower in Minato-ku, Tokyo from 26 February.
