Southeast Asian e-commerce company <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/Lazada-Group">Lazada Group</a> has chosen a new CEO for its Indonesia operations, replacing former co-CEOs Florian Holm and Duri Granziol.
Former Lazada Thailand CEO Alessandro Piscini will be leading the company&#8217;s Indonesia operations, Holm revealed in a recent LinkedIn post.
“After a fantastic four years journey with Lazada, time has come to hand over the leadership of Lazada Indonesia to Alessandro Piscini,” he said.
The appointment has not been officially announced by Lazada and Piscini’s Linkedin profile still shows him as the CEO of Lazada Thailand. However, a source within Lazada Indonesia has confirmed that the Italian has been in Jakarta since the start of May. The official announcement of his appointment, the source said, is likely to be made in June.
Having obtained his master&#8217;s degree in Finance at Universita Bocconi in 2008, Piscini began his career as an analyst at Barclays Capital. He joined Lazada Group in 2013 as Chief Commercial Officer for Lazada Thailand. Two years later, he was appointed the CEO at Lazada Thailand.
Holm and Granziol, who both previously held key positions at Lazada Philippines, will be leaving Lazada Group after more than four years with the company.
In March this year, Alibaba announced an additional $2-billion investment in Lazada, taking its total funding in the Singapore-based firm to $4 billion. It also installed Lucy Peng, one of Alibaba&#8217;s 18 co-founders and then executive chairman of payments giant Ant Financial, as the new CEO, replacing Max Bittner. Peng later stepped down from the Ant Financial role to fully focus on Lazada.
A number of senior Alibaba executives have reportedly joined Lazada to lead its technology team.
Many are expecting more shakeup within Lazada as Alibaba looks to exert more influence and control in the company. Intense competition in Southeast Asia&#8217;s burgeoning e-commerce market has seen investors line up to grab a slice of the pie as startups burn through cash to increase market share.
