Online pharmacy <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/pharmeasy" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">PharmEasy</a> and pharmaceutical distribution company <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/ascent-health" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Ascent Health and Wellness</a> are said to be in talks for a potential merger.
According to a source-based <a href="https://tech.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/corporate/pharmeasy-and-ascent-health-in-merger-talks-naspers-may-invest-in-combined-entity/68605375" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">report </a>in The Economic Times, key investors of both companies including Everstone Capital, Kedar Mankekar, Eight Roads Ventures and Orios Venture Partners have given their in-principle approval for the all-stock transaction.
“The stakeholders of both companies have given the green signal for the merger about three weeks to a month back, and the board approvals are also likely to given soon,” said one of the sources cited in the report.
Ascent currently owns a substantial stake of around 25 per cent in PharmEasy.
It was recently reported that PharmEasy was in talks with SoftBank to raise up to $100 million.
<h3>MT Educare plans stake sale to raise funds</h3>
Education chain <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/mt-educare" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">MT Educare</a>, which runs Mahesh Tutorials and Lakshya coaching brands, is reportedly in talks with private equity firms such as Gata Capital and WestBridge capital, among others, to raise its latest round of funding.
Venture capital firm Lightspeed, which is also keen on the education space, is also said to be in talks to acquire a stake, according to a report in The Economic Times quoting sources.
“It could be a mix of fresh funds and stake sale,” said one of the sources cited in the report. “Fundraising is likely to be for driving inorganic capex of its traditional business and scaling up the visibility of its tech enabled e-learning division Robomate.”
Currently, Zee Learn, part of the Zee Group, holds a 59 per cent stake in the company, while the rest 24 per cent is held by founder Mahesh Shetty.
