Rocket Internet-fired work.com.mm follows offline strategy to get Myanmar job seekers online

These are interesting times for internet-powered businesses in the frontier market, Myanmar, which is slowly but surefootedly embracing the digital.Internet platform Rocket Internet-powered jobs site in Myanmar, work.com.mm, is witnessing quantum leaps in registration from job-seekers who previously had only offline methods to hunt for employment.The portal is used by prominent employers like foreign telecom operators Telenor and Ooredoo and local players like Myanmar Post and Telecommunications, who scout for talent in the region.

Talking to DEALSTREETASIA in a free-wheeling interview about the labour market and how the internet is changing it in Myanmar, work.com.mm marketing director Lynette Chong says, “better internet connection means that more people are engaging in a job search through various online platforms. People really want to work, but they don’t have the ability to find work by themselves. So when we found this gap, we really wanted to get in”.
