Yuanxin Sun’s startup StoryChopsticks was born out of her frustration as a mother while teaching Mandarin to her young daughter. She and her co-founders developed a virtual school that uses gamification and storytelling to teach the language. Today, the startup claims to have hundreds of students across Southeast Asia and other markets.
In an interview with DealStreetAsia, Sun says she finds it advantageous to be a female founder in the education space, where women make the majority of spending decisions. She said one of her critical challenges as a founder is the same as that of nearly all women in the workplace – how to balance responsibilities at work and home.
