Indonesian social commerce platform Super has raised $70 million in a Series C round led by the US venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates (NEA), according to a statement on Thursday.
Institutional investors Insignia Ventures Partners, SoftBank Ventures Asia, DST Global Partners, Amasia, B Capital, and TNB Aura also participated in the funding round alongside Bain Capital&#8217;s chairman Stephen Pagliuca; Eric Feng, the former general partner of Kleiner Perkins; and Moses Lo, the CEO of Indonesian unicorn Xendit. 
Following the latest financing, the startup&#8217;s total funding stands at $106 million, the highest for an Indonesian social commerce startup, according to the statement.
In April 2021, <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/softbank-super-238511/">Super had raised </a>$28 million in a Series B round led by SoftBank Ventures Asia. Amasia, Insignia Ventures Partners, DST Global partners and TNB Aura also took part in the funding.
Super will use the latest funds to expand to new markets in Indonesia including Kalimantan, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and Papua in the next two years. Currently, Super operates across 30 cities in East Java and South Sulawesi.
“Indonesia’s tier II, tier III cities, and rural area’s GDP per capita are two or three times lower than Jakarta, yet the cost of consumer goods is higher by 20-200%. In fact, more than 30% of Indonesia&#8217;s GDP came from East Java, Kalimantan, and East Indonesia,” explained Steven Wongsoredjo, CEO and co-founder of Super. 
Super is owned by Nusantara Technology, a consumer technology company, which has three brands, the other two being Keeepo (a social media platform) and Yukepo (a digital media targeting the lifestyle of young readers).
Founded in 2018, Super leverages a hyperlocal logistics platform to deliver consumer goods to agents within 24 hours of ordering. The startup partners with thousands of community agents such as individuals and warungs to aggregate and distribute goods to their communities each month. 
“As Super is entering its fourth year in business, we understand the importance of data collection and analysis as one of the keys to success in launching new SKUs. Therefore, we are going to expand our engineering team to improve Super’s warehouse management system by implementing machine learning to help Super better utilise data to expand its SKUs in the future,” said Gisella Tjoanda, Super’s head of strategy and business development. 
Super, which has launched two private-label brands, will invest a portion of its new capital towards developing additional FMCG private-label brands. In addition, the startup plans to use the new fund to launch cosmetics products, as the demand for this segment is rising across Indonesia.
Super will also launch a feature for community agents to track end-consumer transactions to help them offer tailored experiences for end-users.

Super is going to continuously improve access to basic goods, create meaningful and rewarding jobs, and streamline supply chains for Indonesia’s tier II, tier III, and rural regions,” said Andrew Schoen, partner, NEA.
