People Digest: TA Associates promotes staff members; Careem Pakistan appoints country head

Global growth private equity (PE) firm TA Associates announced the promotions of its executives in Mumbai and Hong Kong offices. In a separate development, Dubai-headquartered Careem has appointed Feroz Jaleel as its country head of Pakistan.

TA Associates promotes staff members in India, HK

TA Associates announced promotions of its investment staff members in Mumbai and Hong Kong offices, effective January 1, 2022.

Michele Lim earned the promotion to Vice President from Senior Associate. She is based in the Hong Kong office of TA Associates Asia Pacific Ltd., focusing on investments in companies in the Asia-Pacific region, with an emphasis on Southeast Asia. 

Lim has been actively involved in the firm’s investments in InCorp, MISA and YeePay. Prior to joining TA as an Associate, she was an Assistant Vice President, Investments at Khazanah Nasional Berhad. 

Andrew Tay has become a director from principal. He is based in the Hong Kong office of TA Associates Asia Pacific Ltd., focusing on investments in the Asia-Pacific region across technology, healthcare, business and financial services.

Prior to joining TA in 2019, Tay was a vice president at Baring Private Equity Asia. He also worked at Snow Phipps Group and Lazard Frѐres & Co.

Meanwhile, Gurnoor Kaur has become a vice president from senior associate. She is based in the Mumbai office of TA Associates Advisory Pvt. Ltd., focusing on investments in business services companies in India.

Kaur has been actively involved in the firm’s investments in Accion Labs, Atria Convergence Technologies (ACT) and Ideal Cures Pvt. Ltd.

Prior to joining TA, she worked at the investment banking division at Rothschild & Co., and the investment banking division at J.P. Morgan.

Careem Pakistan ropes in Feroz Jaleel as country head

Dubai-headquartered Careem, the super app of the greater Middle East and Pakistan, has appointed Feroz Jaleel as the country head for Pakistan, its biggest market in the region.

In this role, Jaleel will be responsible for strategic planning, day-to-day operations and organisational culture.

Feroz started his Careem journey in Pakistan over four years ago as part of the core team launching ride-hailing. Since then, he has played a key role in leading operational efficiencies across Careem’s markets as Vice President of Strategic Finance.

Prior to joining Careem, Feroz held financial management positions in organisations operating across telecoms, e-commerce, tech and mobility.

Careem, a unit of Uber Technologies, is transforming into a super app. Careem has further expanded its services from mobility of people to adding mobility of things and money; including food/daily essential deliveries, peer-to-peer credit transfer and mobile top-ups.

To date, Careem has provided employment opportunities to more than 800,000 captains and invested up to $100 million in Pakistan since its inception.
