Vietnam’s largest lender by market value <a href="http://Vietcombank">Vietcombank</a> (VCB) has registered to offload 7.6 million shares of Vietnam Airlines (HVN) from January 24-February 22, according to the bank’s latest announcement published in its official website.
Vietcombank currently holds more than 22.4 million shares of <a href="http://Vietnam Airlines">Vietnam Airlines</a>, equivalent to 1.21 per cent of chartered capital. If the transaction is successful, the lender&#8217;s holding in the carrier will decrease to 0.8 per cent.
The bank earlier purchased 22.4 million HVN shares in its initial publish offering (IPO) by the end of 2014 at VND22,300 ($0.9) per share.
Meanwhile, HVN shares on January 22 increased to VND63,000 ($2.78) per share, lifting the value of shares of Vietcombank at the national flag carrier to VND1.4 trillion ($61.6 million), a three-fold increase after two years holding the shares.
If the sale of 7.6 million shares of HVN is successful with the current market price, Vietcombank is expected to earn VND484 billion ($21.2 million).
In 2017, Vietnam Airlines’s total revenue stood at VND88.4 trillion ($3.9 billion), with pre-tax profit at a record VND2.8 trillion ($124.4 million), surpassing the annual plan by 72 per cent and 8.3 per cent higher than in 2016.
In the first quarter this year, the state-owned airline plans to issue more than 191 million shares to current shareholders with the aim of increasing its charter capital. It will also transfer the right to buy the 57.9 million state shareholders’ shares, according to the plan approved by the government in May 2017.
The national carrier will also list its shares on the benchmark stock exchange in Ho Chi Minh City (<a href="http://HoSE">HoSE</a>) in the second quarter of this year to easily mobilize funds for its fleet and international network expansion.
Vietcombank on January 12 reported a pre-tax profit of more than VND11 trillion ($482.5 million) in 2017, a rise of 32.9 per cent during the same period in the previous year and 16 per cent higher than its target.
