North Asia-focused <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/pe-firm-mbk-partners-preparing-bid-pearsons-400-mln-english-language-unit-sources-82818/">MBK Partners</a> has appointed Stephen Le as co-head of a new special situations private equity fund, which is looking to invest in equity and credit.
He will be based in Hong Kong in the new role.
Le joined MBK in September after leaving his position at Deutsche Bank where he was the Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific. He took care of credit trading, strategic investment, distressed products and real estate at Deutsche, according to his LinkedIn profile.
He has spent 15 years at Deutsche where he joined in 2002. Prior to that, he has worked at Goldman Sachs as an equity research analyst for two years.
With 27 portfolio companies and $15 billion in capital under management, MBK Partners has a dedicated focus on acquisitions in North Asia &#8211; Korea, Japan and Greater China (China, Taiwan and Hong Kong) &#8211; and has investment teams located in Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
It acquires companies through management-led buyouts, buys subsidiary businesses through corporate divestitures, partners with strategic buyers, takes publicly listed companies private and purchases and grows companies through add-on acquisitions. While the firm makes complex acquisitions in various forms, its strategy is focused on buyouts in North Asia.
It focuses on control investments but may also pursue selected minority investments where it can add strategic value. In the past MBK was involved in a $6.1 billion acquisition of <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/tesco-sells-south-korean-arm-to-temasek-backed-pe-consortium-for-6-1b-11743/">Tesco PLC’s South Korean unit </a>and last year the telecom arm of Wharf Holdings.
